Advocate, School Newspaper
The Advocate is the award-winning school newspaper of Albuquerque Academy and it is published as the independent voice of the students. This activity provides the opportunity to learn all aspects of newspaper production except actually running the printing press. Learn reporting, writing, photography, editing, graphic design, layout, web design, marketing, managing, accounting, responsibility, leadership, pride in work, and the awesome power of a free press—all while having loads of fun.

Amnesty International USA
A non-profit, non-political, non-religious organization that works to defend the human rights of those who cannot defend themselves; the poor, women, political prisoners or anyone whose rights have been taking away unjustly. Learn about many different individual cases from people all over the world who are victims of injustice. Amnesty International sends Urgent Letters Cases to the club. Students choose the cases that interest them and write an appeal.

Chess Club
This club starts up in September just after Labor Day and commences with a City League series of five matches in early October. Late March sees the District Championship and early April the State finals. The Academy Chess Club has had the most successful chess program in the city, winning the City title nearly every year since the 1980's. Players of all levels are welcome to attend.

Environmental Club
Work to educate yourself and the community about local and global environmental issues. This year, efforts are focused on presenting at the City of Albuquerque's Water Festival as well as organizing our own Academy Water Festival for the sixth grade on April 13. Learn about GM (genetically modified) foods in conjunction with the Academy's school-wide theme on genetics. Help prepare and make a presentation on this subject for Diversity Day.

A longstanding tradition at the Academy, each year the school hosts Diversity Day. The event celebrates the multiplicity of voices, perspectives, talents, cultures, religions, ideas, and traditions comprising the Academy community. On this day, students, faculty and staff, parents, and members of the larger community gather on the Academy campus to present and participate in a variety of workshops, a school-wide forum, performances, and informational booths that examine and celebrate issues surrounding diversity.
