Teaching Pool

Administrative Assistant 6-7 Division

SCHEDULE

Full Time — 40 Hours/12 Months

POSITION SUMMARY

The Administrative Assistant for the 6-7 Division performs duties that include administrative support for the 6-7 Division Head, the 6-7 faculty and staff, students, and parents. Responsibilities include fielding calls, scheduling meetings, and making appointments, preparing reports, and customer service. Other duties include receiving and directing visitors, word processing, filing, and maintaining accurate daily attendance records. Strong computer and communication skills are absolutely necessary. The position calls for flexibility, adaptability, excellent interpersonal skills, project coordination experience, and the ability to work well with all levels of administration, faculty, and others in the Academy community.

QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of three years of secretarial/clerical/accounting/office experience preferably in a school setting

Theatre Instructor

SCHEDULE

Full Time — 40 Hours/10 Months

POSITION SUMMARY

Albuquerque Academy seeks a full-time theatre teacher, beginning in August 2022. Courses taught include Theatre Foundations, Acting for the Camera, Acting Intensive and Playwriting and Directing, with students in grades 8-12. Teaching experience is strongly preferred while being skilled in acting and directing for theatre and musical theatre, and some working knowledge of technical theatre is helpful.

We are looking for teachers who are also practicing performing artist, comfortable collaborating with colleagues, and enjoy the creativity and intensity of young students. The theatre program is staffed by four artist-teachers in a performing arts department of thirteen artist teachers. The theatre program includes a curriculum covering creative drama, theatre production, theatre performance, history, playwriting, directing, film, and technical theatre supported through classes and extracurriculars. Our teachers work with students across a full range from beginners who are unsure of their arts interests to advanced students with a passion to pursue a career in the arts to foster their growth and development into artists and arts appreciators who contribute to their community. The teacher’s daily activities include classroom teaching, advising, being available to students for assistance, supporting extracurricular activities, and serving the student and school community in a variety of other ways. The teacher reports to the department chair and the division head.

Teaching duties begin in August of 2022. They include four classes, various school duties and extracurricular support through overseeing student directed productions and directing either a play or a musical theatre production. The extracurricular production work is rehearsed after school and presented outside of school hours for the school and larger local community. Counselor

SCHEDULE

Full Time — 40 Hours/10 Months

POSITION SUMMARY

Albuquerque Academy, a co-ed, independent, college preparatory day school, seeks a counselor who will join a dynamic team of four licensed mental health professionals in July 2021. This team works in a variety of ways to promote the mental health and well-being of students at the school.   The counselor will work closely with students, parents, faculty, and staff in key areas: crisis intervention, short-term individual counseling, facilitating support groups, psychoeducation, referrals to therapists in the community, and consultation with the department and community partners. Perspective candidates need to possess a relationship based and trauma informed approach.The counselor will work collaboratively with faculty, administration, parents, and community partners in the development of a school wide SEL program. Prospective candidates need to be skilled and willing to train faculty and parents on topics related to the social emotional development of adolescents and work with parents on the development of parenting skills and during time when their children are in distress.

Currently, health classes are offered in grades eight and ten, where counselors are responsible for delivering and improving the health curriculum. The curriculum covers topics such as clarification of values, sexuality, substance abuse, developing healthy relationships, managing stress, and coping with anxiety and depression.  Additionally, counselors present, sometimes in the evening, to faculty and parents on issues relevant to adolescent development and wellbeing.

Advancement Coordinator

      • Manages department reception, calendars, database, and communications with impeccable writing, verbal and non-verbal skills, and keen attention to detail

Alumni Relations Manager

Under the general direction of the director of advancement and as a collaborative member of the advancement team, the alumni relations manager organizes and coordinates alumni programming and services designed to foster and strengthen the relationship between the Academy and its alumni.

POSITION SUMMARY
The math department at Albuquerque Academy encourages qualified individuals to submit resumes for future employment opportunities in grades 6-12, including possible long-term, full-time substitute teaching positions during the 2020-21 year. We are looking for teachers who are patient and engaging with students, work well with colleagues, and enjoy thinking about the art of teaching math. The mathematics curriculum is largely traditional, though teaching approaches vary from teacher to teacher. We offer courses from Math 6 to multivariable calculus.

Faculty positions in the math department require a minimum of a bachelor’s degree, and teaching experience is strongly preferred. Full-time teaching duties typically include four classes, various school duties, extracurricular commitments, and departmental work. Strong candidates are attracted to our mission and see themselves as engaged community members.

Faculty positions in the history department require a minimum of a bachelor’s degree, and teaching experience is strongly preferred. Familiarity with learning management systems and online and hybrid teaching techniques is an important consideration. The ability to teach elective offerings in a broad array of historical and contemporary issues and regions is particularly desirable. Experiential Education Contractual Instructor Applicant Pool

POSITION SUMMARY
The Experiential Education department helps support and enhance Albuquerque Academy’s rigorous college-preparatory curriculum, and outdoor education trips are required for students in grades 6-9. Students in grades 10-12 can elect to take Outdoor Pursuits and Outdoor Leadership for elective or physical education credit. The Experiential Education department is staffed by three full-time faculty members, two seasonal field faculty members, and a teaching fellow. Contractual field instructors are hired during high-volume trip times. Programs are offered throughout New Mexico and the Four Corners region.

EDUCATION

      • Bachelor’s degree is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

      • Competent in outdoor living skills including: tent use and repair; whisperlite stove use and repair; finding, purifying, and transporting water in desert and mountain environments; campsite selection and management; self-care including nutrition, first aid, and staying warm and dry; Leave No Trace ethics
      • Competent in navigation, map, and compass use and route finding; experience with on- and off-trail travel
      • Effective communicator; comfortable giving and receiving timely and relevant feedback with colleagues and students
      • Sound judgment and decision-making; competent in backcountry-based risk management and student management
      • Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder and CPR
      • Clean driving record (minimum age 21)
      • Technical skills if applicable to trip type: rock climbing, canoeing, mountain biking

On-Call Substitute Instructor

POSITION SUMMARY
Albuquerque Academy, a coed independent day school, seeks experienced, energetic, caring, and creative teachers for a variety of substitute teaching opportunities at our school in the 2020-21 school year. The ability to teach classes both in person and online is an important consideration. We anticipate possible needs for occasional short-term and possibly long-term substitute work in all areas of our curriculum, from sixth to 12th grade: English, mathematics, science, history, world languages, performing and visual arts, and physical education.
