The Application Process
Apply Now for Fall 2019!
All applicants to Albuquerque Academy need to complete the materials listed in Parts I and II below.
We are excited to announce that, for the 2018-19 admission season, we have adopted an early-decision option for families with currently enrolled Academy students in grades 6-12. You can find more information on the Sibling Early-Decision Option page.

- Application fee: $25 early-bird — by December 15; $65 — after December 15
- Registration for entrance examination.
Out-of-state applicants who cannot test at Albuquerque Academy must call the Admission Office for alternative testing instructions.
After the Admission Office receives part 1, and processes your application, you will receive a confirmation letter with further instructions. You then will need to complete items 1 and 2 below.
- Interview: As soon as you receive our letter confirming receipt of your application, call the Admission Office, 505-828-3208, to schedule your child’s interview.
- Recommendation Forms: Beginning in October, an emailed link (Request for Recommendation) will be sent to all applicants who have completed Part I. Follow the instructions in the email to send the Recommendation Forms to your child’s current English and mathematics instructors. These must be returned electronically by the teachers to the Academy by February 1, 2019. All recommendations are confidential and not available to parents or applicants. Recommendations will not be accepted if delivered by applicants or parents.

Ask Andy: Head of School Q&A Sessions
Join Head of School Andrew Watson for an informal question-and-answer session. Ask him anything about the Academy’s history, mission, program, local and national impact, and outcomes. Five one-hour sessions are held in the East Dining Hall Elkins Room beginning at 11:30 a.m. on the dates below:

We offer each applicant the chance to spend an optional half-day visit as a buddy on our campus. Each buddy will attend engaging morning classes and eat a nutritious lunch with a student ambassador. The admission interview may also occur during the Buddy Day at the parents’ request. Buddy Days are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis between mid September and early April.

School Calendar of Events
Albuquerque Academy hosts many events that the public is invited to attend. Please visit our calendar for more information about upcoming performances, athletic competitions, art exhibitions, and community lectures. Applicant families will also receive email notifications about these special events.
Financial Assistance: Application and Tax Forms
Submit all required documents to School and Student Services by NAIS at this link. by February 22, 2019. Applications for financial will be available online by November 1. Please note that the financial assistance application process is separate from the admission application process.

The application deadline for Fall 2019 is February 1, 2019.
The application process consists of an online application form, a release-of-records form, a test date registration form, a photo of the applicant, and the $65 application fee. There is a $25 early application fee if you apply on or before December 15, 2018. (If you would like to request a fee waiver, please call the Admission Office at 505-828-3208.)

Once you have sent us your child’s application, you will receive an email from us asking you to call our office to schedule an interview. Interviews are conducted by our faculty and administrative and admission staff, and are scheduled during the school day. They are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Interviews last approximately 30 to 40 minutes; only students are interviewed
Shortly after the first semester grades have been recorded, the Academy sends the completed release-of-records form to your child’s current school, giving the school permission to send your child’s grades and any standardized test scores to the Academy.
For parents who homeschool their child, if you have any standardized test scores, please include those with an explanation of the curriculum you are using, an example of a daily schedule, and a list of text books. If you use grades or evaluations of any kind, please include those as well.
To help prepare their children for the application process, families can encourage their child to write and write! Have your children read and write whenever possible. Since motivation is one of the characteristics the Academy is looking for in successful candidates, it is also important to encourage children to do their best wherever they attend school. Incoming sixth graders will need to know basic math computation, so it is important to encourage exposure to that.
Admission decision letters will be sent on March 22, 2019.

There are three test sessions offered for the 2018-19 school year admission season: January 12, January 26, and February 2, 2019. All tests are held on Saturday mornings. There will also be a December 8, 2018 test date for students who have siblings currently attending or recently graduated (2017 or 2018) from Albuquerque Academy. Applicants who do not choose to test on this date must schedule another test date. A test registration form is included in the online application materials.
Exam Registration and Deadlines: Applicants are registered for an exam by selecting the desired test date on the admission application. Registration must occur by Friday, noon, preceding each exam. If an applicant needs to change his or her test date, please phone the Admission Office to select a new date.
Each applicant will complete a thirty-minute writing sample and take a one-hour math exam.
Please arrive at the lobby in Simms Center for the Performing Arts between 8 and 8:20 a.m.
Typically, students are finished between 10:45 and 11:15 a.m. We encourage you to remain on campus during testing. However, should you choose to leave campus, please return no later than 10:45 a.m. to pick up your child.
Children taking the sibling/faculty/staff test, which is offered once annually, will finish around 10:30 a.m. because the parent presentation is shorter and no tours are offered (as these families are already familiar with the school).
During your child’s testing, there will be a parent information session. We strongly encourage attending the parent session for two reasons. First, children feel better and are less worried when they know their parents are on campus with them. Second, we want all families to hear the presentation that includes information about the school, the curriculum, and our admission and financial assistance processes.
Please do not bring a child who is not feeling well to testing. Simply call the admission office the Monday following the missed test date, and we will reschedule them for the exam.
Each child can only take the admission test once per admission season (once per school year). Applicants who are re-applying in a subsequent year will be given the appropriate test for the grade to which they are applying.
In the writing sample, we look for imagination, complexity of thought, ease of expression, and the ability to use punctuation, spelling and grammatical rules at an age-appropriate level.

After their testing has concluded, your child will take a required tour of the Albuquerque Academy campus led by the test proctor.
Online application, fee, and photo must be submitted and your child’s interview must be scheduled before testing.
Academy Sibling Test Date (Optional):
The December 8 test date is only for students who have siblings currently attending or recently graduated (2017 or 2018) from the Academy. No tours will be provided but information on financial assistance will be available. Academy sibling applicants who do not choose to test on this date must attend another test date.
