Danny Packer Selected as AP Panelist

Albuquerque Academy history faculty member Danny Packer has been selected as an AP teacher panelist for the 2015 AP U.S. History Standard Setting.

According to Danny, he will be part of a small committee that will meet in Kansas City, Missouri in mid-June. The committee, composed of a select group of high school and college history teachers from across the country, will evaluate composite scores from the multiple choice and essay portions of the exam in order to translate those scores into the traditional 5-point scale used by AP.

Danny was nominated for the panel by a colleague at another school. The selection process is competitive, so after being nominated, Danny submitted a resume and syllabus. Danny has been teaching AP History at Academy for more than ten years.

Albuquerque Academy faculty have a long history of involvement with the College Board, the nonprofit organization that administers the Advancement Placement Program. Numerous faculty have been graders for AP exams in mathematics, world languages, history, and studio art, presenters for various AP workshops and summer institutes, and other activities associated with the development and implementation of the exams.

One of the guiding principles behind such involvement, says Danny, is that it allows the faculty to better prepare Academy students for such rigorous tests.
