Elise Matton ’10
Elise Matton was born and raised in Albuquerque and spent much of her childhood exploring the Sandia foothills and climbing trees. After graduating from Albuquerque Academy in 2010, she moved to New Orleans where she developed a passion for education and equity, live music, and funky art. She taught middle school science through Teach for America before feeling the call to return to the Land of Enchantment where she decided to pursue a master’s degree in her first love: history. In addition to teaching history, Elise also coaches debate; she is passionate about Speech & Debate as a student-driven pedagogy that fosters critical thinking, advocacy skills, and self-discovery. Eternally grateful for her time as an Academy student, she is ecstatic to have returned to her roots and give back to the community she loves. When not nerding out about all things history and debate, she enjoys jamming out to 80’s music, dabbling in guitar, ukulele, and piano, learning new things, and petting a copious amount of dogs.
