Albuquerque Academy’s Science Olympiad team finished first in a field of 22 team at the New Mexico state tournament, earning them a trip to nationals in late May.
At the competition, a team of 15 students competes in 23 events covering life science, earth and space science, physics, chemistry, engineering, and general scientific knowledge. The students work in pairs on either tests, labs, and construction of devices, or in hybrids of the three.
“It was an impressive performance by everyone,” says Coach Kiran Manne. “They placed in the top five in 19 of the 23 events, and they were in the top three for 15 of them.”
