The Skip Porter Memorial Golf Tournament is an annual tournament in memory of Charles “Skip” Porter. Mr. Porter was a beloved math and physics teacher of 18 years and the coach of the Academy’s golf team. After finals, Skip would always host the varsity golf team, a handful of alums, and a group of faculty to a friendly tournament at Arroyo del Oso. After Mr. Porter passed away in 1986, alum and current Albuquerque Academy Treasurer Gary Gordon ’79 began organizing the tournament to carry on the tradition. As the tournament grew in size, it eventually became a full-fledged fundraiser organized by the Academy’s Advancement Office to support the Annual Fund.
