Phihoang Nelson was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Having discovered a passion for mathematics and history in his middle and high school years, he went on to earn his bachelor of science degree in applied mathematics with minors in history and psychology. Afterwards, he taught at a small public charter school located in downtown Albuquerque. There, he taught upper-level math courses and established a calculus program for the school before joining the Academy. Phihoang loves coffee, spending time with family (especially with his adorable dog Lucky!), going to bookstores, keeping aquaria, reading narrative histories and biographies, and writing about Jacksonian America. He is a bibliophile who loves antiques!
