In a recent award ceremony at Stanford University, Academy alum Zach Lott ’09 was one of 25 top academic seniors in Stanford’s School of Humanities and Sciences to receive the J.E. Wallace Sterling Scholastic Award. The award was established in 2006, named for the long-time Stanford President, who served in that position from 1949 to 1968.
Award recipients have the opportunity to invite to the ceremony the secondary school teacher who most influenced their scholastic career, and Zach chose to honor history department faculty member Ed Baklini. “I could have chosen a number of Academy instructors,” said Zach. “But Mr. Bak’s name immediately popped into my head. As my sixth-grade adviser, Mr. Bak’s passion for history and social science and his flair for teaching radiated throughout the classroom, re-energized me, and inspired me to become the student I am today. Further, he introduced me to economics, which I plan to pursue as a doctoral student next fall.”
Congratulations, Zach and Mr. Bak!
