Commenting on this announcement, the Academy’s Head of School Andrew Watson said, “Though we have a smaller senior class this year, they have come through just like their predecessors, again ranking near the very top of the independent school world on this measure of academic excellence. In fact, 28 National Merit Semifinalists ties us, with Andover, for the seventh highest total of Scholars among the nation’s independent schools. We congratulate these seniors, and their teachers, for creating the culture of learning and curiosity that leads to these stellar results now, with such promise for the future of our city, state, and country later.”
Approximately 1.5 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) which served as an initial screen of program participants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.
