Equestrian is an NCAA Division I sport and NMSU’s women’s team is ranked 5th in the nation. Megan, who has been riding competitively since she was 10 years old, was offered a scholarship covering all costs with the Aggies. She is planning to pursue a double major in animal science and psychology when she starts at NMSU this fall.
Megan says she would love to take her riding to the next level, with the World Cup and the Olympics as possibilities. But, for now, she is keeping her options open.
Megan has been at Albuquerque Academy since sixth grade. She says she appreciates how supportive the Academy, especially the faculty, has been concerning her equestrian career. “I have to travel out of state for competitions, and the school and my teachers have been really helpful,” says Megan.
Megan’s father, Marty Armijo, graduated from Albuquerque Academy in 1981. Her grandfather, Joe Armijo, was a longtime teacher and coach at the Academy, and also served as athletic director.
