Albuquerque Academy fielded three teams and brought home a second place win from the 2014 Regional Middle School Science Bowl held on Saturday, February 8, 2014.
Albuquerque Academy fielded three teams at the 2014 Regional Middle School Science Bowl held on Saturday, February 8 at Highland High School. Two of the teams placed among the top 16 teams to advance to the afternoon’s double elimination tournament, with the third (sixth-grade) team giving an excellent morning performance. At the end of the day the two Academy teams finished amongst the top eight, and one team came in second place.
Albuquerque Academy and Los Alamos (first place team) competed in five rounds — one of the rounds ended with a score in Academy’s favor (150 to 22). The other four rounds were neck-and-neck, with Los Alamos winning the tiebreaking round by 4 points.
Members of the second place team are: Harrison Bay ’18, Henry Luo ’18, Bailey McCarthy ’19, Eric Swiler ’19, and Huy Tran ’18.
Finishing as one of the top 8 teams are: Eliseo Aragon ’20, Charles Fan ’19, Nikita Jaiswal ’19, William Piwowarek ’19, and Akshay Warrier ’19.
Members of the third team to compete are: Cosi Carrizales ’20, Josue Flores ’20, Gage Honegger ’20, Michaela Kustra ’20, and Skylar Winckler ’20.
