The College Board recently announced that 18 Albuquerque Academy students in the Class of 2015 have been named 2014-15 National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP) Scholars.
The College Board’s NHRP identifies academically outstanding Hispanic/Latino high school students. Each year, about 5,000 Hispanic/Latino students are selected from a pool of over 250,000 who take the Preliminary SAT/NMSQT. These students are from the United States, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, the Mariana Islands, and the Marshall Islands, as well as U.S. citizens attending schools abroad. Approximately 200 of the top-scoring PAA™ students from Puerto Rico are also included.
Associate Head of School Don Smith commented on this achievement, saying, “We are so pleased with and proud of the wonderful accomplishments of our National Hispanic Scholars. This recognition is a great tribute to the quality of these students.”
The Academy’s 2014-15 National Hispanic Scholars are: Maya Benia, Nicolas Call, Ema Duran, Elise Eras,Nadine Esparza, Carl Fluke, Alexa Hummel-Paez,Samantha King, Logan Megginson, Samantha Montoya, Alma Olavarria Gallegos, Elena Purcell,Rebecca Restrepo, Emily Romero, Alina Taveras Shelley, Mikaela Torres, Kathleen Torrez, and Angelica Velez.
