Update: Academy Teams Take Top Awards at Intel State Science Fair

The Intel State Science Fair took place at New Mexico Tech on March 27 and 28. Repeating their performance at the regionals two weeks earlier, Academy teams once again won the two top awards in the computer science category.
Sophomores Che Olavarria-Gallegos and Antonio Perez placed first with their project which compared the Genetic Algorithm approach with a version of the Monte Carlo method for optimizing the design of a fusion reactor. Marcus Dominguez-Kuhn ’16 placed second with his project which addressed the spread of a computer virus.

Che and Antonio were also selected to be members of the team representing New Mexico at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair 2015; this all-expenses-paid event will be held in Pittsburgh in May.

Congratulations to these very dedicated and talented future scientists!
