“I am thrilled to have been selected for this award, as it helps me represent and thank all the hard working teachers who have inspired and mentored me to be the best teacher that I can be,” says Karen, who has taught earth systems science and biology at Albuquerque Academy since 1997.
“I hope to use this national recognition to bring climate change education to the forefront of science teaching,” she says. “I am one of the luckiest people I know, to be able to teach what I am most passionate about to some of the smartest and kindest students in our nation.”
Winners of this Presidential honor receive a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation to be used at their discretion.
This year’s awardees represent all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, U.S. Territories, and the Department of Defense Education Activity schools. The educators will receive their awards at a Washington, DC ceremony later this summer.
