Science Olympiad Team Headed to State

Thirty students in grades 9 through 12 competed in the Central Regional Science Olympiad competition held at the University of New Mexico on Saturday, January 30, 2016.

The two Charger teams placed first in 11 events and second in eight events, with the Academy’s C1 team earning first place overall and the C2 team earning third place.

Students participating in the regional event were:

Grade 12: Tanek Ballachanda, Mason Clugston, Max Johnson, Andrew Jones, Josh Konopka, Holly Liu, Anh Nguyen, Trevor O’Brien, Haley So, Hisham Temmar, and Serena Wang.

Grade 11: Daniel Bruce, Connor Butler, Cameren Kristensen, Saili Lowry, Mark Swiler.

Grade 10: Hemza Assed, Akhil Kholwadwala, Anokhi Kholwadwala, Suraj Kholwadwala , Henry Luo, Kiernan Sanders-Reed, Sindu Sivakumar, Yasmine Temmar, Ann Thompson, and Kiyoshi Yamamoto.

Grade 9: Amjad Awwad, Nikita Jaiswal, Bailey McCarthy, and William Piwowarek.

One Academy team will compete in the state competition on February 20 at New Mexico Tech in Socorro.
