Last week, 11 Academy Business Club members attended the New Mexico DECA District 2 conference at Popejoy Hall. During the conference, they learned that all 11 Academy students, who took the two very challenging tests to qualify for the New Mexico DECA State Conference, were successful.
Those members were Carter Abdallah ‘18, Chris Bass ‘17, Sophie Gallant ’18, Mark Harrington ’17, Claire Johnson ‘18, Thor Larson ‘18, Austin Lee, ’18, John Liu ‘18, Scott Manning ‘18, Nic Valdez ’17, and Jason Watlington ‘17.
In addition, club members Scott Manning and Mark Harrington had the first and second highest test scores among more than 900 test takers.
“This is a terrific accomplishment for a new club in its first year,” says Charlie Bergman, History faculty member and club sponsor. The club, which was founded this fall, focuses on entrepreneurship, corporate citizenship, and a range of disciplines including management, finance, marketing, and sales.
If the team does well at the state conference, they have a chance to advance to the DECA national conference in Anaheim, California, in April.
