Academy Technology faculty member Susan Geores has received a grant for more than $4,600 from the CenturyLink Clarke M. Williams Foundation’s Teachers and Technology grant program. The funds will be used to purchase Google Expeditions, a virtual reality platform.
The Google Expedition kit will allow students to go on hundreds of teacher-led virtual field trips. There are currently more than 450 expeditions offered, enabling students to visit every corner of the globe, explore different time periods throughout history, explore the oceans and outer space, and even virtually visit college and university campuses across the United States.
More than 2,300 grant applications were submitted across the country, and Susan’s proposal was one of only 309 awarded. Grants were awarded based on the impact they will have on students in the classroom and the overall innovation of the project.
Susan expects to roll out the Google Expedition program next fall.
