The Academy boys and girls cross country teams, and the girls soccer team all won the state championship this past weekend. All three teams also won the state championship last year, in record weekend where four teams (boys soccer as well) all brought home the blue trophy.
The girls cross country team placed five runners among the top 12 to take its second straight team crown with 38 points over runner-up Los Alamos. The boys cross country won its third straight team title to complete a second straight boys/girls team title sweep. Girls soccer won a very close 1-0 game against district rival Los Alamos. Team scoring leader Eliza Mariner went down early in the game with an ankle injury, but the team stepped up and junior midfielder Gabby Sanchez scored the lone goal.
The boys soccer team came up one goal shy in a hard fought championship game, otherwise, all four teams would have swept fall championship Saturday.
Congratulations to the student-athletes and coaches of these teams. Great seasons, Chargers!
