Albuquerque Academy’s Class of 2018 achieved an average composite score of 30.1 on the ACT. With a possible top score of 36 in each section of the test, a 30.1 places 2018 Academy graduates well above the national average of 20.8 and the New Mexico average of 19.4. It is also the first time an Academy class has surpassed the 30-point mark.
Students scored highest in the reading component, averaging 31.4. “It’s fascinating that this was their strongest area,” says Head of School Andrew T. Watson, “since educators are concerned that increased screen time negatively impacts reading skills.”
Only 46 percent of all test-takers met the college readiness benchmark in reading. National readiness levels in reading have varied over the past five years, with no clear upward or downward trends, according to ACT.
