Eighteen Academy students across all three divisions have been meeting and competing online this year to prepare for the 2020-21 Air Force Association Cyber Competition. After three rounds of competition in November, December, and January — each up to six hours long and involving securing virtual networks, answering forensics questions, and solving challenges to find and fix vulnerabilities in Linux, Windows 10, and Windows Server operating systems, the results are in.
Academy high school teams achieved gold and silver levels of the competition, taking first place in their tiers. The middle school teams finished in first and second place in the state. This was the second year that Albuquerque Academy has participated in this national competition.
The National Youth Cyber Education Program was created by the Air Force Association to inspire kindergarten through high school students towards careers in cybersecurity or other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines. This year there were 4,801 teams across the U.S.
