Comedian and late-night TV host Seth Meyers has brought widespread attention to the 2025 Academy commencement, where his wife, 2002 alum Alexi Ashe Meyers, gave an inspiring alumni address while comforting their daughter.
Seth praised Alexi’s performance – her speech as well as the “nonstop balancing act” that parenthood requires – on his Instagram account and in interviews, garnering coverage that ranged from Today.com to the Howard Stern Show.
“It was really one of the coolest days of my life,” Seth told Howard Stern. “She was really funny, and she was really moving, and it was smart. You could tell the kids were hanging on her every word.”
Alexi is the director of Anti-Trafficking Policy at Sanctuary for Families, New York’s leading service provider and advocate for survivors of domestic violence, sex trafficking, and related forms of gender violence. She advocates for policy changes to protect women and girls from being bought and sold in the multi-billion-dollar global sex trade, while holding their buyers and other exploiters accountable. Alexi was instrumental in passing federal legislation to hold websites accountable for knowingly facilitating trafficking that led to the takedown of Backpage.com. She has also worked to implement stronger laws in New York City to protect women and girls from being preyed upon by traffickers.
