At New Mexico Tech Golf Course in Socorro, Albuquerque Academy and Artesia are showing the way in the boys team standings.
The Chargers shot 25-over (313), five strokes ahead of the Bulldogs. It was another 12 shots back from Artesia to third-place Los Alamos.
Two Chargers lead the way on the scoreboard: junior Alex Hanna shot even-par 72, two shots ahead of freshman Thomas Whitten. Yandel Parra of Goddard is third by himself after carding a 75.
Academy’s girls own a commanding 29-shot lead over second-place Lovington, with St. Pius in third place, 35 strokes behind the Sartans.
Chargers junior Adelyn Haas is 3-over (77) and takes a commanding five-shot lead into Tuesday’s second round. Hayden Dan of Kirtland Central (78) is solo second, and senior Bailey Alexander of Lovington is third at 83.
