[Albuquerque Academy ninth grader] Pedro Cuadra IV had one throw left.
The 14-year-old from Albuquerque, javelin in hand, prepared for his final throw at the 2026 USA Track & Field National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships in Norwalk, California. The 13-14 boys 600-gram javelin title was finally within reach.
Then he delivered.
Representing Zia Track Club, Cuadra launched his final toss 49.60 meters (162 feet, 8 inches) to overtake fellow Albuquerque javelin thrower Malik Sulaimon and win the national championship.
