On Saturday, May 5, three participants in this year’s Spring Musical, Once Upon a Mattress, were recognized during the 3rd annual New Mexico High School Musical Theatre Enchantment Awards ceremony (formerly the PopeJoy Awards).
Faculty member Mickey Prokopiak won in the Best Direction category, pointing out in his acceptance speech that it was really a team award for himself, Debbie Briggs, Desiree Lang, Jonathan Armerding, and Richard Hogle.
For the second consecutive year, Trey Caperton ‘19 won the Best Actor award. Trey will be going to New York in late June to compete with 70 winners from around the country and to ultimately perform in a showcase on a Broadway stage as part of the Broadway League Foundation’s, The National High School Musical Theatre Awards, known as the Jimmy Awards.
Clara Johnson ‘18 was recognized for her costumes, both for the design work and the execution/construction, with the first-ever Spotlight Award.
