The New Mexico MATHCOUNTS team returned from national competition in Washington, D.C. placing 15th in the nation — the highest achievement yet for a New Mexico team.
The New Mexico MATHCOUNTS team returned from national competition in Washington, D.C. placing 15th in the nation — the highest achievement yet for a New Mexico team. The team comprises the top four individuals from the state competition. Academy student Thor Larson ’17was one of the team members, and designated team captain as he had achieved the highest score at state competition (click here to read related news story).
Academy math faculty member Melena Hulettcoached this year’s championship team, and met weekly with members of the team, instilling the importance of cooperation and team strategy.
During the competition, teams and coaches from throughout the country set a new Guinness Book of World Records this year by assembling themselves into the first 25 rows of Pascal’s Triangle in the record-breaking time of 6 minutes and 16 seconds.
