Last week, Ben Albin ’15 signed a National Letter of Intent to play golf at the University of Notre Dame next year. Ben has been playing golf since he was three years old, and played several other sports until he came to Albuquerque Academy in ninth grade.
Ben has played on the Academy golf team for four years, and last year helped the team claim the state championship by birdieing the last two holes to win by one shot over St. Pius X High School. Ben won the individual state title as well.
Earlier this year, Ben qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship, an annual tournament which offers the winner exemptions into the Masters, U.S. Open, and British Open. He competed against the best amateur golfers from all over the world, including the best college players in the U.S.
“I am thrilled to represent Notre Dame and to compete at the next level,” Ben said. “I know I will have the chance to challenge myself academically and hone my skills on the course, as I work my way toward a professional career, hopefully on the PGA Tour.”
