Eighth-grader Zach Auster won first place in the Academy Spelling Bee earlier this week, competing against 27 sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students to win the title. The winning word was “gravigrade.”
Hannah Park ’22 earned a second place finish. The first and second place winners were declared in eleven rounds.
It took another eight rounds to determine alternate Aiden Cruz ’22 from a very strong pool of finalists.
Zach and Hannah will represent Albuquerque Academy at the Private and Parochial Schools District Spelling Bee to be hosted by Manzano Day School on Thursday, January 21. Aiden will fill in for either Zach or Hannah, if needed.
Congratulations to all of the participants!
