Commenting on this announcement, Albuquerque Academy’s Head of School Andrew Watson said, “The joy of learning is alive and well among Academy students as they join forces with their teachers to explore the world. This is the ninth straight year in which Academy seniors have ranked among the top ten independent schools in the nation in National Merit Semifinalists; New Mexican students can indeed compete on a national- and world-class level.”
Approximately 1.5 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2016 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) which served as an initial screen of program participants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.
Congratulations to the Academy’s 2016 Semifinalists:Erin Archibeck, Tanek Ballachanda, Kobie Boslough, Cody Bratzler, Maia Buschman, Andrew Chu, Channing Cimarusti, Kainoa Correa, Samsara Durvasula, Shannon Fonseca, Bryce Gordon, Ellen Hager, Dylan Hendrickson, Austin Hwang, Max Johnson, David Kohler, Elisabeth Lawton, Holly Liu, Bryan Metzger, Ryan Puskar, Craig Short, Haley So, Nicole Spence, Samantha Stroud, Hisham Temmar, Lois Wampler, and Emma Wellman.
