Albuquerque Academy senior Sophie Long was named the 2017 Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the New Mexico Athletic Directors Association on Monday.
Sophie earned six varsity letters during her career at Academy, two in volleyball and four in basketball. In basketball, she was a three-time first team all-district selection, 2017 District 2-5A co-player of the year, first team All-Metro (AMBCA and Albuquerque Journal), second team All-USA New Mexico Girls Basketball Team, and a NMHSCA North-South All Star selection. Sophie is a National Merit Finalist and an AP Scholar with Distinction, and her college entrance scores are among the highest in the 10 year history of this state-wide award. She has participated in Scholastic Art Competitions (sculpture), and in school/community activities including the Best Buddies program, Peer Counselors, and the Dean’s Council. Sophie will be attending Washington University (St. Louis, MO) to study neuroscience.
