In December, Advanced Placement French V students took part in the UNM French essay-writing contest for New Mexico high school students.
Students were tasked with writing on the following topic: ”Qu’est-ce que c’est que l’identité française?” or “What is French identity?” The essays were judged on proper French grammar and syntax, as well as intellectual and creative content. Participants were not allowed to seek help from their teachers for this contest.
Of the 10 finalists selected from across the state, seven are Academy students! Congratulations to the following students:
Swann Baca ‘18
Christopher Bass ‘17
Brian Bishop ’18
Sofia Jensen ‘17
Linda Procell ‘17
Elli Vassilev ‘17
Elle Wolfley ‘17
Each of the finalists received $50 and the opportunity to move up to the next round. The students have been invited to the UNM World Language Expo in March, where they will be recognized and have the opportunity to participate in oral interviews with the possibility of earning additional recognition.
