The Model UN team spent two days at the Roundhouse addressing pressing global issues such as access to safe drinking water and cybersecurity threats at the 60th annual New Mexico Model United Nations conference.
Academy students represented the delegations from Russia and Bosnia-Herzegovina this year, and our 14 student-delegates participated in the following committees: General Assembly, Human Rights Committee, Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC), Security Council, and the World Health Organization.
The Academy’s DISEC Russia delegation — Noor Ali ’23 and Sophia Liem ’23 — took the prize for Best Delegation in that committee, and Sophia Liem also received the honor of Best Delegate.
“We have a mostly novice team this year, and even our experienced delegates have only had online conference experience since 2019,” says Model UN Sponsor Casey Citrin. “I was impressed by how quickly our students became involved in debates and how they took the lead in producing working papers and caucusing with their fellow delegates.”
