Sowmya Sankaran ’27 and Aarush Tutiki ’26 are taking their work to the state STEM Research Challenge following their success at the Central New Mexico competition.
Sowmya’s research into artificial intelligence, An Analysis of the Code Generation Capabilities of Large Language Models ChatGPT and Github, won First Place Junior Physical Sciences, First Place Junior Computer Science Category, American association of University Women Young Scientist Award, Broadcom Coding With Commitment Award, Explora Science Center and Children’s Museum Award, International Test and Evaluation Association Award, Kaufman Fire Protection Systems Inc. Award, Society of Women Engineers Award, and the Titan Development Award. She was also invited to serve as the junior ambassador to the International Science and Engineering Fair in Dallas. Sowmya was mentored by Dr. Elliot Wilkinson, middle school science teacher.
Aarush and his project, The First Steps Towards Solving Medicare: An Analysis of the End Stage Renal Disease Mode, won the University of New Mexico Health Science Center Award. He was mentored by Dr. David Metzler of the math department.
