No. 1 seed Connor Dils vanquished some demons from last year’s defeat in the Metro finals when he rallied late for a hard-fought victory over second-seeded Leo Rocca of Albuquerque High 6-3, 2-6, 7-5. The Academy senior had to overcome a 3-0 deficit in the final set to hand Rocca his first loss of the 2024 campaign. Last year, Dils fell to two-time state champ Philip Bosin in three sets in the Metro final.
A visibly emotional Dils took a bow after the clinching point against Rocca and then shed a few tears while embracing supporters.
“That’s a battle. That’s how they go, one way or the other,” Dils said. “To pull it out, it was good.”
