Mira Thompkins, a seventh grader at Albuquerque Academy, balances her schedule, which includes five musical instruments, track competitions, swimming, acting, and more. Although her schedule is packed, she enjoys staying busy.
Music is central to Mira’s life. She studies piano, violin, clarinet, sitar, and voice and has earned spots in the All-State Choir for three consecutive years. She recently won the New Mexico State Voice Competition and performed at Carnegie Hall after placing in an international vocal contest. Most recently, she was selected from a competitive pool of young performers for the Santa Fe Opera’s production of La Bohème. The role includes a paid three-month contract and live performances throughout the summer. Mira’s athletic interests are just as strong. She runs track for both Albuquerque Academy and Zia Track Club, competing in the 400m, 200m, and high jump. After visiting the 2024 Olympics in Paris, she came home inspired and soon after won a State Junior Olympics gold medal in high jump. She also swims competitively, having made state finals, and has trained in figure skating, tennis, gymnastics, volleyball, and basketball.
