With a 275-point performance at the NASP New Mexico State 3D Archery Tournament, Hugo Hashagen ’32 qualified for the Western National Tournament in Utah. He finished first among 6th-grade boys, third among 137 middle school boys, and eighth overall in a field of 252.
In 3D archery, archers take five shots each at six different targets ranging in size from a wild turkey to a large animal. The highest possible score is 300.
“It was the first 3D tournament for three of our five archers,” said Coach Dennis Fazio, “but they all did well.”
In addition to Hugo, team members included Elliott Au ’32, Maxwell Mao ’31, Marshall Suina ’31, and Scott Dellinger-Hall ’31.
Elliot and Marshall achieved personal bests at the NASP New Mexico State Bullseye Archery Tournament the previous week. “All of our students scored at least one 10-point bullseye, with Hugo hitting the mark 13 times,” Coach Fazio said. “For most of our archers, this was their first state tournament experience.” Scott and Clair Geballe ’29 also represented the Academy at the tournament.
