Longtime Academy teacher and coach Adam Kedge has been named New Mexico Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the third time. This is his first win for track and field; he received COY recognition for cross country in 2023 and 2018.
One boys coach and one girls coach from each state and the District of Columbia were honored for their successes during the spring of 2026, as selected by a committee of experts from around the nation.
Academy boys and girls swept the 4A state championship in 2026; it was a repeat for the boys.
This is the second consecutive year that the USTFCCCA has singled out Academy track and field coaching. Kathy Brion was named girls COY in 2024, as well as in 2014 when she was at Eldorado High School.
State-by-state winners were selected based on their teams’ performances throughout the 2026 outdoor track and field season. Among the factors taken into consideration were team score and placement at the state championships, margin of victory, performance against rankings if available, individual championships, and how their teams’ performances stacked up to previous years.
