The tradition of excellence continues for Chargers athletics!
MaxPreps named Albuquerque Academy’s sports program #11 nationwide in its 2025-26 ranking of top 100 high schools. The recognition comes on the strength of eight state championships, five runners-up, so many hard-working student-athletes, and the best in coaching — and after taking the 13th spot for the 2024-25 school year.
The MaxPreps Cup recognizes the best all-around high school sports programs in the country. The competition uses an algorithm that awards points for state championships, runner-up finishes, and national rankings based on size of state, popularity of the sport, size of school, and number of teams in each playoff division.
The Chargers earned 1,711 points for their eight state championships (girls golf, boys tennis, girls tennis, boys track and field, girls track and field, boys swimming and diving, girls swimming and diving, and boys cross country) and five second-place finishes (boys golf, girls soccer, boys soccer, girls volleyball, and girls cross country).
Rio Rancho’s Cleveland High School, #53 with 1,366 points, was the only other New Mexico school to earn a spot on the national list. On MaxPreps’ state rankings, St. Michael’s in Santa Fe, (1,028), La Cueva (841), and Artesia (825) rounded out the top five.
